New Year, New Pest Tips
You’ve heard the saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. That popular saying can apply to many facets of life. One in which it is definitely true is with pest control. Taking an hour now to prevent pest invasion can save you many hours and dollars in the future. We’ve compiled this short list of things you can do today to help prevent pests.
- Clean Out Pantry and Cupboards – Any scrap of food that is lying around is a target for a hungry pest. Vacuuming out and wiping down your food pantry and cupboards is a good idea. Also, go ahead and junk the packages of food that are not going to be used (or are expiring). These packages can be torn into and eaten by hungry pests.
- Getting Rid of Cardboard Boxes – Speaking of packaging, cardboard boxes are a great way to move items from point A to point B. But many times we end up keeping items in cardboard boxes until we have a chance to sort them. The problem is that cardboard is a natural cellulose based product and bugs can eat it. Get rid of any cardboard you have laying around.
- Seal Openings Around House – This is a good idea in order to maintain energy efficiency. But it is also a great way to keep the bugs out. Fix any seals with caulk. Make sure to check the area around your outdoor dryer vent.
- Clean Out Your Air Ducts – The air ducts in your house build up dust and debris over time. The vents located on the floor are especially vulnerable to this. Bugs can live in (and off of) this debris. Vacuum, spray and wipe your vents.
With attention to detail, you may be able to prevent run-ins with pests. If you do end up having a bug infestation, just remember that a qualified pest control specialist is just a phone call away.
