Halloween Safety Tips

Wednesday is Halloween. Kids and parents alike will be walking through neighborhoods collecting candy in this tradition. Though the holiday started in Ireland, the United States, Mexico and Canada celebrate Halloween as well.

It is important to remember safety with all of these people and especially young kids out and about during twilight hours. The city of Titusville has created a safety guide that we would like to share with our readers:

• Adults should accompany young kids at least until the age of 12
• Only visit familiar areas, preferably friends & family
• Take a flashlight and wear brightly colored costumes
• Do a safety check on all candy before giving it to children to consume.
• Walk on sidewalks if they are available. Do not run.
• Cross the street at intersections, do not run and make sure to look both ways.
• Know your neighbors and plan your route. A little planning can go a long way.

One item we would like to add that is unique to warm climates like Florida is make sure to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. The costumes create stuffy conditions and the child can overheat.
