The weather in Florida is beautiful in the winter months. Except for the occasional cold spell and dreary rainy day, the sun shines bright and the temperature peaks at 72 degrees in Brevard County. A nice breeze comes by every few minutes to cool things off. Nearly perfect.
And with nice weather comes outdoor dining. Whether it be an afternoon picnic or a family dinner on the back patio, Floridians and our snow bird friends know how to maximize their comfort. One of the few things that can spoil this good time are pests. Bugs and other pests enjoy being out in this beautiful weather as well.
We have prepared this article to help you stay pest free during your outdoor meals. We have three tips that should help you avoid a problem.
Pick a spot away from water bodies. Bugs and critters tend to be around water more often than not. Screened porch or patio: This one is a no brainer. If you have a screened in area, eating and hanging out there will protect you from annoying pests. It is a good idea to inspect the screen material before use to make sure there are no gaps or holes. A screened-in area with holes or gaps is basically useless.
Make sure to cover containers holding food while they are not being used. You can use cloth covering or a screen type covering.
Bug spray really does its job and can keep the bugs away from you. There are all-natural varieties available if you prefer those. You can burn a citronella candle too. The smell of this candle is thought to help drive bugs away. They even sell it in yard torch form (pictured). Light your yard and drive away bugs.
